Please, somebody, anybody take my land!

Let's say you buy a piece of land. That land is tied to a homeowners' association. You agree to pay HOA fees in exchange for whatever the association hopefully will do to make the neighborhood awesome. So far, so fair.

But it turns out no one can build on the land you bought. Something about the soil not being suitable for a sewage system. Stink.

You try to sell it. No one wants it. You try to give it away. No one wants it. Not even the homeowners' association will take it as a gift (they didn't like your park idea). You stop paying taxes. The government can't sell it either. You try to abandon it, but the law says you can't.

You haven't been there for years, but the whole time the HOA fees have been adding up. And the court rules you still have to pay them.

Moral of the story? Be careful what you buy. Death may be your only way out of paying HOA fees for something utterly useless. Pity the poor soul who gets the beloved property when you kick the bucket.

Kidding? Nope.
